2 years in – still runs pretty strong.

Maintenance could be reduced, but following instructions (clean pipes, ball in strainer etc.) seems to work. When I’m grumpy – it’s generally because I’ve been lazy. Buy generic media components.

BTW – Fluval – like, how do you choose plastic to make a pump rod and only replaceable when it breaks. Offer me a metal one at least after it breaks? It broke after a year, I ordered ~$20 replacement. While waiting to arrive, I built my own with heat-shrink tubing on a metal rod lying around (maybe from a coat hanger), and the existing stopper disc screwed & epoxied onto the bottom. That’s what the original should have been.

i like that this one was set up very similar to the one i had from six years ago. its nicce that it is new but i like that i plugged it up and it went straight to work like the one that malfunctioned. i figured out it was clogged with plant material in the intake. oh well, live and learn

Does a great job of keeping tank clean and clear. Find needing to clean about once a month, again pretty easy since the incoming water lines have a shutoff at filter lid
